Yasuhiro Akiyama is responsible Chief Financial Officer of Prudential Holdings of Japan (PHJ) and serves on the boards of its key insurance subsidiaries including Gibraltar Life, and Prudential Life in Japan. Prior to becoming CFO of PHJ in August 2023, Akiyama served as Chief Risk Officer for Prudential’s Japan operations for six years. 

Since joining Prudential in 2003, Akiyama has held key positions in the Company’s investment and risk management areas in Newark, NJ and Tokyo, Japan and led the Company’s various initiatives on the investment and risk fronts including the advocacy/regulatory engagement on the insurance capital standard, product development and ALM strategies, and evaluation of M&A opportunities worldwide. 

Prior to joining Prudential, Akiyama worked for a life insurance company in Japan for 7 years. Akiyama holds a bachelor’s degree in law from Kansai University and an MBA from Columbia University, and studied computational finance at Hitotsubashi University. Akiyama is a chartered member of the Securities Analysts Association of Japan and served as a director of the Board of New Jersey Community Capital, a New Brunswick, NJ non-profit community development financial institution from 2015 to 2017.
